The Axel Yearbook
About the yearbook
The Axel Annual — the school's yearbook — has been published every year since 2005. It is entirely student-produced: writing, photography, layout and editorial decisions are made by the Class XI and XII yearbook team, with guidance from a faculty advisor. The yearbook documents the academic year in photographs, essays, results, achievements and the graduating class profiles.
Every graduating student receives a copy. Back issues from 2005 onwards are held in the school library. Alumni routinely order copies years after graduation.
Yearbook team roles
Editor-in-Chief — overall editorial direction, final copy approval.
Photography Editors — curate the year's photographic record.
Section Editors — academics, sports, arts, community, class profiles.
Layout Team — design and typography using publishing software.
Writers — feature essays, achievement profiles, alumni updates.
Applications open every June to all Class X and XI students.
The Axel Chronicle
Axel's student-run newsletter — published digitally every two weeks and in print every quarter.
About the Chronicle
The Axel Chronicle was started in 2017 by a group of Class X students as a photocopied notice. It now has a digital edition reaching over 800 subscribers, a print quarterly edition and an active social media presence. It covers campus news, sports results, academic achievements, community initiatives, opinion and the occasional investigation into school policy.
Roles available
Writers, investigative reporters, feature writers, sports correspondents, photographers, illustrators, copy editors, layout designers, social media managers and editorial board members. No journalism experience required — training is provided by senior staff. New recruits join in June each year. The Chronicle is one of the most competitive clubs to join at Axel.
Editorial independence
The Chronicle has a published editorial charter establishing the student editorial team's independence from school management. Faculty advisors may advise but cannot require changes to content. The school management is subject to coverage like any other entity. Three Chronicle investigations since 2019 have led to real changes in school policy — including the introduction of the DEAR programme's library prefect system.
Other publications
The Science Bulletin
Published twice per year by the Science & Environment Club, the Science Bulletin features student research findings — including the biodiversity documentation from the butterfly park — alongside explainers of current scientific topics relevant to Northeast India. Distributed to partner schools and submitted to Assam's state science education board.
Literary Magazine
An annual collection of student poetry, short fiction, essays and translations, published in English, Assamese and Hindi. Open submissions from all classes. Edited by the DEAR Reading Club's senior members. The magazine is named Gorbhonga after the forest in which the school stands. Now in its eighth edition.
The Axel Atlas
A geography and environment magazine produced by the Geography & Current Affairs Club, covering topics in climate, biodiversity, geopolitics and development with a focus on Northeast India and South Asia. Published twice annually and available in the school library. Back issues are available online through the school website.
