Est. 2008 · Four Houses

The House System

Every student at Axel belongs to one of four houses — Cygnus, Monoceros, Aquila or Pegasus — each named after a constellation in the night sky. The house you join on Day One is your team for the next seven years.

The four houses of Axel

Named after four constellations — each carrying its own spirit into every contest, classroom and community project.

Cygnus
Grace, resilience, and poise

Named after the constellation of the Swan. Cygnus House stands for discipline with dignity — students who excel not just academically but in character, moving through challenges with confidence and calm leadership, inspiring those around them through their actions.

House Colour: Blue

Captain: Harshita Kalita  ·  Vice-Captain: Jinakshi Bordoloi

Monoceros
Think beyond limits

Derived from the constellation of the Unicorn — a creature of purity, rarity and imagination. Monoceros House represents innovation and originality, encouraging students to embrace uniqueness, pursue knowledge with curiosity and bring new ideas into everything they do.

House Colour: Red

Captain: Simran Hussain  ·  Vice-Captain: Abhishruti Gogoi

Pegasus
Dream big. Work hard.

Named after the constellation of the Winged Horse, representing freedom, inspiration and limitless potential. Pegasus House stands for aspiration and excellence — cultivating students who are not afraid to explore new horizons and are willing to do the work greatness demands.

House Colour: Green

Captain: Mewa Oo Dkhar  ·  Vice-Captain: Mayuraakshi Roy

Aquila
Aim high. Lead boldly.

Inspired by the constellation of the Eagle — the bird of power, vision and determination. Aquila House embodies ambition and leadership. Its members are driven to aim high, face challenges without hesitation and set strong examples that lift the entire school community.

House Colour: Yellow

Captain: Pracheeta Das  ·  Vice-Captain: Mannat Roy

Together, the four houses reflect a balance of grace (Cygnus), creativity (Monoceros), ambition (Aquila) and aspiration (Pegasus) — guiding every student at Axel to become a well-rounded, capable and visionary individual.

How the house system works

Points are earned through sport, academics, service and conduct. The annual House Trophy goes to the highest aggregate at the end of each academic year.

Earning house points

Points are awarded across four categories — Sports (inter-house tournaments), Academics (house quizzes, subject Olympiads, board results), Arts & Culture (annual play, music competitions, art exhibitions) and Community Service (hours logged, initiatives led). Every student in every class contributes.

House captains

Each house elects a House Captain and a Vice-Captain annually by secret ballot in March. Captains sit on the Student Council and attend fortnightly meetings with the Principal. The position carries real responsibility — house captains manage event logistics, keep point tallies and represent their house at all formal school functions.

Inter-house calendar

The annual inter-house calendar spans the full academic year: Cricket (June), Swimming (July–August), Athletics (September), Quiz Bowl (October–November), Science Exhibition (November), Cultural Night (December–January), Football (January–February), Basketball (February), Music & Drama (March). Every competition is open to any student who wants to represent their house.

The House Trophy

The Axel House Trophy — awarded at the Annual Convocation — goes to the house with the highest total points at the end of the academic year. The trophy has been held by all four houses at least once since the system was introduced. Winning is a shared victory: a single student's act of service counts as much as a first-place finish on the athletics track.
