Weekly build sessions in the AI Lab using Arduino, Raspberry Pi and the school's component library. Three-time finalists at the Guwahati Inter-School Robotics League. Open to Class VI upward. Annual project showcase in November.

Classes VI–XII  ·  Fridays 3:30–5:30 pm

Science & Environment Club

Manages the school's butterfly conservation park — the only one in Northeast India. Organises Axel's Vigyana, the annual science exhibition: the 2024 edition showcased student projects across life sciences, physics, environmental science and technology. Runs the class-wise Olympiad preparation sessions and submits student-led research to the Assam Biodiversity Board. Two Axel science teachers attended the WWF Educators' Conclave 2024; the school's Principal was invited as a panelist.

Classes V–XII  ·  Wednesdays 4–5 pm

Mathematics & Olympiad Club

Problem-solving sessions beyond the syllabus. Preparation for SOF, NTSE and various inter-school mathematics competitions. Students from Class VII participate in the Indian National Mathematics Olympiad qualifying rounds. Past members have placed in the top 1% nationally.

Classes VII–XII  ·  Tuesdays 4–5 pm

Debate & Model UN

Weekly debate practice and participation in inter-school and regional MUN conferences. Axel students have won Best Delegate and Best Position Paper at multiple district and state-level MUN events. In April 2024, Axel's Lokhra campus hosted TeenCon — a full Model United Nations conference — bringing together student delegates from across Guwahati. Open to Class VIII upward. New members attend a foundation workshop in June.

Classes VIII–XII  ·  Thursdays 4–5:30 pm

Coding & Web Club

Python, HTML, CSS and basic app development. Students build live projects — the school website was first built by senior students. Annual hackathon in December. Beginners welcome; the only requirement is curiosity. Open to Class V upward.

Classes V–XII  ·  Mondays 4–5 pm

Geography & Current Affairs Club

Weekly current events briefings, map quizzes and participation in the National Geographic Bee. Students have won at district level twice. The club also manages the school's world-map display board and publishes a monthly current affairs digest for the notice board.

Classes VI–XII  ·  Mondays 3:30 pm

Arts, culture & creative clubs

Drama & Theatre Club

Produces the annual school play — written, designed and largely directed by senior students. Two public performances each year with professional-quality staging and live music. Past productions have included original scripts set in Northeast India. Auditions are open to all, every August.

Classes V–XII  ·  Rehearsals from August

Music Circle

Covers classical Indian vocal (Hindustani and Sattriya), guitar and keyboard. Students perform at school events and the Annual Cultural Night. Two members have sat ABRSM music theory exams. Biannual recording sessions produce the school's internal music archive.

Classes IV–XII  ·  Tuesdays & Thursdays

Fine Arts Club

Mixed media studio work covering drawing, painting, printmaking, pottery and Assamese weaving patterns. Annual art exhibition open to the public. Club member Rituporna Dey was awarded the Visharad certificate in Fine Arts by the Prayag Sangit Samiti — the highest pre-degree arts qualification available in India.

Classes III–XII  ·  Wednesdays & Fridays

Dance Troupe

Classical Sattriya and Bihu dance training alongside contemporary and Bollywood. The troupe performs at school events, cultural festivals and has represented Axel at three inter-school regional competitions. Class IV students and above are welcome to audition at the start of each academic year.

Classes IV–XII  ·  Mondays & Fridays 4 pm

Photography Club

School cameras available for member use. Sessions cover composition, natural light, wildlife and documentary photography. Works appear in the school yearbook and on the campus display boards. Annual photowalk through the Gorbhonga forest is the highlight of the club calendar.

Classes VI–XII  ·  Saturdays 9–11 am

The Axel Chronicle

Student-run newsletter covering campus news, sports results, community initiatives and opinion pieces. Published digitally every two weeks and printed as a quarterly edition. Roles include writers, editors, photographers, layout designers and social media managers. No journalism experience required.

Classes VII–XII  ·  Wednesdays 4:30 pm

Radio Broadcasting Club

Students learn the craft of radio — scripting, voice work, production and live presenting. In 2024–25, RJ Krish and the team from Radio Gupshup ran a full broadcasting workshop for Classes VII to XII across three days, covering everything from mic technique to show formatting. Members produce short broadcasts for school assemblies and special events. Open to Classes VII–XII.

Classes VII–XII  ·  Open

Community & service clubs

Green Earth Club

Manages the butterfly conservation park, school organic garden and the campus composting programme. Organises the annual Brahmaputra clean-up drive. Works with the local Karbi farming community. Students in this club have submitted three biodiversity reports to government bodies in the past two years.

Classes V–XII  ·  Open

Community Service Corps & Udayan

Coordinates the school's 40-hour minimum community service programme and Axel's community club, Udayan. In 2024–25: students served food to animals at Guwahati's Veterinary Hospital, ran an Earth Day cleanliness drive at Thapana Road, badged new Green Ambassadors on World Environment Day, and completed pledges for Swachhata Hi Seva and Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam. Corps members plan and lead initiatives independently. 749 cumulative hours logged across all batches.

Classes VI–XII  ·  Monthly drives

Reading Mentors

Senior school students mentor younger readers in the DEAR programme. Once a week, Class IX–XII volunteers sit with Class I–IV students during the 20-minute reading window, helping with comprehension, fluency and a love of books. The most requested club by incoming students every year.

Classes IX–XII  ·  Thursdays during DEAR

Joining a club

All clubs are open enrolment — there are no tryouts unless specified. New students attend a Club Fair at the start of each academic year (first Friday of June) where every club has a booth. You can join as many clubs as you like, though the school recommends a maximum of three for Class I–VIII students and four for Class IX–XII to avoid over-commitment.

Starting a new club is possible with a written proposal to the Vice Principal (Academic), signed by at least 12 students and one faculty sponsor. Two new clubs were started by students in 2024–25: the Astrophysics Society and the Axel Social Entrepreneurs Network.

Every student. Every interest.

Clubs run the school's community service, publish the yearbook, run the robotics lab and write the newsletter. Find yours at the Club Fair in June.
